Vietnam Sniper: the alley fighter.

This is my 2008 Sniper. I am not finished with it yet though. I took these pics over two months ago and I did some additional modifications since then. I will post more pics when I am finished with a better background than in an alley way. But then again, a Sniper is always in the shadow. Special thanks to Traxxas and Rooster for most of the upgrade parts.

This is 3.5x17 rim with 120/60-17 racing rain tire. Perfect tire for South Vietnam.

At the front is 2.15x17 with 80/90-17 tire. I have moved the fender up about 20cm but I still can not run any tire larger than 80/90 without it rubbing.

Both front and rear rims are DID aluminum with custom stainless steel spokes on factory Yamaha hubs. They cost me about USD$1000 total with the labor for lacing and truing the spokes was about USD$400

You do not need to lengthen the chain if you use the stock rear sprocket. I switch to custom 45T rear sprocket so I have to get a new chain.

Did you use the stock off set spacers for the rear hub? To keep the rim and tire from rubbing on anything, it's very close? Could you give us some details of how you measured the set up for your wide rear end?

The new rim and spokes were mounted on the factory hub with zero offset. Every thing else is stock except for the 45T aluminum sprocket. I started with 110/80 tire on factory rim, then 110/80 on 2.75x17 rim, then 120/60 on 3.5x17 rim when I saw that there was still room. 130/70 on 3.5x17 rim will rub on the chain. The larger tires front and rear make the bike rock stable at high speed.

130/70-17 on 3.50 rim will rub on the chain. 110/70-17 will not fit unless you remove the front fender.
