Sa totoo lang, all of these parts that we long to buy are simply called aftermarket or high performance parts. The BRT/REXTOR/TDR/KITTI, etc CDIs are the branded ignition modules. CDI stands for Capacitor Discharge Ignition which relies on electronics to provide multiple and bigger sparks to provide cleaner burning and easier starting especially on cold mornings. Now factory CDIs are what we may call "generic" while the other brands are what we may call "branded". If we compare this to bath soap, factory CDIs are like the unbranded soap we see in motels/hotels and the BRT/REXTOR/TDR/KITTI, etc types are like SAFEGUARD/DIAL/IVORY/DOVE.
In other words, the generic CDIs provides the basic need for our engine and for it to last long (durability) otherwise, factories will end up bankrupt. If we want more, we look for what the engine needs plus more. We do so after the bike is soild in the market...hence the term aftermarket. The word RACING is truly a marketing adjective but it also does mean that some racers use them. So all of this is a matter of choice. These aftermarket CDIs do not provide a miracle boost in power. They simply make things more efficient. Pistons don't burn or melt due to the CDIs, they do so because of
OVER REVVING. Why? Simply because if we omit the factory limiter, we are left without protection from
over revving.
The reason why we ask those with experience is so we can learn from their experiences and try to analyze before we ourselves buy. Of course there is also the marketing angle. This is why we canvass and study then analyze FIRST before we let go of our hard-earned money. SO we go to the features.... do I really need the fan check? DO I need the TPS sensor?
Basics of modification are supposed to be to go for more efficiency. Modified engines are supposed to run more efficiently and thus more economical (power to weight) . Why do we consume more power? ---guess what--- broken wrist syndrome... The vroom vroom sounds nice and tempting so we end up gunning beyond the efficiently rated speed (60-80 kph).
I hope this helps... I discussed the merits and basics of CDI so this takes care of the TOPIC.
Cheers!!!
